Radiant Light

These gorgeous strong white Colorado clouds were almost too beautiful to look upon. They reminded me the the Lord's beauty, purity, and radiance. I was pondering what scripture to put with them, when I realized that the match was in Psalm 19, after hearing this morning's message and coming home to read the entire Psalm.

The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
Ps. 19:8-9

Skywatchers

From the blog and private responses I got about the Colorado Clouds, I am happy to report that I am not the only skywatching freak around. I already knew that...(c;

Here are a few more skies I photographed in Colorado. These were all from the open space at the foot of Evergreen Mountain, looking west to Mt. Evans. The first one looked like a flying elephant to me. The blue and pink stripes in the other two provided an amazing wallpaper for seeing the mountain and tree silhouettes.

Each day a new beginning, and each sunset a time to look forward to rest and rejuvenation. His grace is sufficient!

Colorado Clouds

One evening in Colorado last week I ran down to the open space hoping to get a good sunset picture in the western sky over Mt. Evans. The western sky dwindled without much promising color. However, when I turned around to head back up the road to the cabin, the eastern sky presented its own stunning capture of the fading light of day. Just when you think things are done, God shows up in unexpected ways and places.

Great and Small

The glorious design of a single flower still captivates me. I saw several wildflowers on this trip that I had not seen before. The wild iris was breathtaking. I had seen old-fashioned ones in the country, and actually had lavender ones by my front door in Nebraska that had a scent of grape Kool-Aid. These in Colorado were much smaller, but no less impressive. Some were pastel blue, some deep purple, some periwinkle, and one lone white bloom stood out in the center of the patch. They all sprung up in the open space leading to the trails on Evergreen Mountain.

The yellow blooms were all over the countryside. They reminded me in their shape of Texas bluebonnets. At an airport shop I saw a picture of one in a wildflower book that identified it as part of the pea family.

The yellow meadow was one of many flower-painted fields north of Steamboat Springs on the way to our cabin near Clark. The mix of meadows, barns, pristine ranches and surrounding hills and mountains reminded me of Vermont. This road was a feast for the senses.

The impact of one petal, let alone the entire flower, is quite impressive. But when a whole meadow is covered with flowers it is something to behold; especially when the entire meadow is surrounded by mountains reaching into bright blue skies and painting-worthy clouds. Things great and small, He made them all.

New things I declare

I am back from Colorado, and am anxious to share with you the wonderful things I saw there. I was hoping to see 'Light' but instead, 'Ember' was waiting in on the hill by the cabin when we arrived. We took an instant liking to each other. The second picture is her baby, 'Sticker.' The third picture is of an even younger kit we saw in Evergreen. Seeing the different foxes each day was such an incredible experience.

I was wanting to see a moose or bear on this trip, but God had many new things to show me. I got to see massive meadows full of river ribbons and alpine flowers. I saw numerous barns and went to sleep by the sound of rushing waters churning wildly with the spring thaw of heavy snow. I saw wildflowers that I've never seen before. I saw an array of wild iris in the open space across from my favorite fence that underlines the beauty of the layers of meadow, aspen, mountains, and the snow-capped Mt. Evans.

I got to see, in just a few days, the leafless aspen groves go from grey to light yellow-green to full green. The transformation in the spring is as fast as the changing of color in the fall. Before I left Evergreen Mountain I was able to hear an approaching wind by the quaking of the aspen leaves.

I was filled with the promise of new life; seeing new creatures and flowers, new territory. I am renewed for having been there at a different time of year. I hope you will continue to check in and see the wonderful things that God put in front of my lens.

Isaiah 42:9-10

See, the former things have taken place,
and new things I declare;
before they spring into being
I announce them to you.

Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise from the ends of the earth.
